As part of the blockbuster deal, the Bears acquired D.J. Moore from the Panthers as part of a trade down from the No. 1 pick. A

Here’s a brief bio: Moore, 25, has spent his entire NFL career with the Carolina Panthers. He was selected with the 24th overall pick in the 2018 draught. Moore has over 1,000 yards receiving in three seasons and 21 total touchdowns in his career.

Even better, he complements Fields’ arm strength. He’s a deep ball receiver with a solid frame (6 feet, 210 pounds). According to Brad Spielberger of PFF, Moore has 172 targets 10-19 yards downfield from 2019 to 22, the second-most in the NFL in that category.

Fields’ ability to throw the pigskin downfield is well known among the Poles and Bears. That’s why, like Moore, they traded for Chase Claypool, a big body capable of catching the long 50/50 ball.

Fields also expressed a desire to improve his short game. He wants to improve his efficiency with shorter passes. His career completion percentage of 59.7 percent isn’t great.

“I would say in the short game, in the short passing game,” Fields said when asked to name an area where he needs to improve. “Kind of like the gimme throws, run alerts, bubbles, and stuff like that. I believe I may have become too sluggish and simply missed easy opportunities.

Aside from Fields’ advancements, the Bears now have a legitimate No. 1 quarterback who can run routes and catch deep balls.

And, let’s not forget, Moore’s quarterbacks haven’t exactly been stellar in his five NFL seasons. Sam Darnold, Baker Mayfield, P.J. Walker, Teddy Bridgewater, Will Grier… Should I go on?

Moore now has a quarterback capable of getting him the ball with Fields. He may not have fully demonstrated it last season, with just over 2,200 passing yards, 18 touchdowns, and the majority of his offensive work coming from the ground.
